The Streets of Derry is a traditional Irish folk b The Streets of Derry is a traditional Irish folk ballad, catalogued in the Roud Folk Song Index as #896, Laws L11.  It was collected in 1952 by field recorders Peter Kennedy & Sean O’Boyle from Sarah Makem of Keady, County Armagh.  The story told in the song: a young man condemned to hang, and just as he’s facing execution, his lover arrives with a royal pardon (from the king), saving him.
